Money, money, money, yes, the root of all evil. It’ll get you on television aligning yourself with the grifter-in-chief, nodding along while his henchmen spew lies unchecked but hey, Tony’s got 4 kids to feed.
What journalism is supposed to do:
Weigh the evidence. Cold hard facts and when one side is lying, say so, loudly for the whole fucking world to hear it.. That’s the job. Simple, right??
Well, on day one of being a CBS evening news anchor: Don’t know whether Tony dropped the ball or the producers did, but he made sure to let them know. Right in the middle of the broadcast. He says. “Big problems here” Already?? Really, that’s a hard no‑no. You’re not supposed to call out the producers on air. Awkward? Just wait until the next office party.
In his his ambition, or a desire for recognition after CBS Mornings. Tony signed on for a bit more than he could chew. Granted, he wasn’t an anchor I was excited to see in later morning broadcasts, none of them were, frankly.- My guy Vlad tho, he’s the man.
What I do know is this: integrity is everything. Especially while this administration is currently in office. What is increasingly unclear is whether what you’re hearing or you’re reading is journalism or just another careful alignment with the Big Ass Lie.
Even when it didn’t flatter CBS or anyone else.- Y’all give it up for my girl Jericka Duncan. She stared down intimidation and let the story speak for itself. You remember the story about Julie Chen’s husband, Les Moonves. His sexual harassment, and workplace abuse allegations. Enter henchman Jeff Fager, who was more trouble than he was worth. It made CBS look bad, real bad. Still, Jericka prevailed and it aired, even if CBS took a hit in the process- Integrity like Jericka’s makes everything else look weak. -Eyes open, Tony, take notes.
There was a time when CBS News felt like someone you trusted- cliché, I know. Seriously, not exciting, not flashy. Just steady. It was Elegant and absolutely untouchable for a long time- A round of applause for the one and only Walter Cronkite. 👏👏👏
I used to plan my mornings around CBS news as well as my evenings. I didn’t watch because I blindly trusted it, I watched because you knew the work had been done. Because what you were seeing wasn’t padded with disinformation, the truth had been scraped together the hard way.
CBS mornings and Evening’s did not demanded attention, they earned it. CBS Mornings wasn’t partisan, or thirsty. It didn’t need to be. It had credibility. CBS evenings was boots on the ground and due diligence.
Because Integrity is the most valuable thing a journalist carries, it’s more than a title. It is what drives them to chase the story into places others wouldn’t dare bring their ass to. Real journalism is knocking on doors, following leads, and confronting people on the facts. No matter the pressure, no matter the threats, even if it might make the network look bad. Journalists must protect the truth like a child, with patience, care, and vigilance, so it can grow strong and endure the hardships of the world.
Back before this president, could you imagine a commander-in-chief obsessing over controlling the narrative instead of focusing on policy?- You know the old Nixon playbook: too worried about likes and not plugging the leaks. Pun intended.
Journalism exists to give the people a voice and that’s exactly why real reporting terrifies them. They lean on networks and affiliates to make sure only the positive spin sees the light of day.. What they don’t want you to know is- ICE IS HOMEGROWN TERRORISM, its job is to ethnically cleanse the United States as a distraction and rob it at the same time.- it’s as simple as that.
With the core of real journalism being its confrontational nature, the field is now in a death spiral. Most avoid conflict at all costs, leaving the only reliable, unfiltered truth to independent voices. The social media anchors, and reporters willing to risk everything- shout out to the Meidas Touch News.
How would we ever have learned who DeepThroat was without journalists risking everything to find the sources? Jamal Khashoggi’s death showed the real cost of truth, murdered for doing his job. 8 years later here we are, A US president lavishing praise on that murderer, inviting him into the people’s house, welcoming him in like an old friend. Without asking the landlord if that was OK to do. Khashoggi’s vanishing wasn’t symbolic. It is the reality
Watergate. Iran-Contra. Clinton and Lewinsky. The Fast and Furious/ATF controversy, a name that sounds like it belongs in a Vin Diesel franchise, but it wasn’t fiction. That was journalism at its rawest. Its reporting was wildly relentless.
Ohhh, the fall from grace. It’s a hard watch. Tony Dokoupil nodding along, on air, humiliatingly may I add. Performing for the cameras while truth gets watered down. – talk to your boy Gail!! We watched journalism bend to donors and to fear- All for his 15 minutes of fame. – that’s nasty work..
Tony cried on air ya’ll.. real tears. Because he knows the weight of his tenure, the current state of his credibility, and the horrifying stretch ahead, is going to be devastatingly long. He may miss simpler times now- cue the MIAMI TEARS. It’s only going to hurt more as the contract drags his ass around. From a viral, handsome father of four, to a hollow, rundown ghost of himself. – did you see what they did to Jeff Glor, over a designer sweater.
We had high hopes for you Tony, especially coming from a cast like his CBS Morning crew. He let us down. -Don’t blink twice if you need help, Tony
So long CBS, I personally don’t feel sorry for him and his MAGA Coded disastrous start.
The once strong backbone of CBS’s journalism: Missing. Make sure to turn the TV off. -This is your Gossip Pigeon, signing out. Good night..
